Beyer High School students in Modesto, California, are making a difference for our combat veterans.

Former RoR participants will recognize our own Jose Jauregui. Jose joined the U.S. Army as a cannon crew member, and his regiment was deployed to Ar Ramadi, Iraq. On April 16, 2005, a 122-mm rocket struck their howitzer. Jose was the sole survivor of a 4-man crew.

In the fall of 2013, Jose attended his first fishing trip with Rivers of Recovery. Hearing and sharing stories with our participants helped him know there were others going through very similar situations. Now he’s RoR’s Director of Operations, and he’s responsible for managing our trips.

Sharing his experience with other veterans throughout many RoR trips has left a lasting impact. Perhaps that’s why so many veterans feel a kinship with Jose that lasts long after a trip is over.
